Information on Waxing
Waxing is a way of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root. New hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for two to eight weeks, although some people will start to see regrowth in only a week. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet. There are many types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair.
A few suggestions:
*Take an Ibuprofen and an Antihistamine about 30 minutes prior to your body waxing appointment as this will help reduce inflammation, redness and pain.
*Try to relax! Close your eyes and take deep breaths. Because when you tense up, believe it or not, your follicles constrict as well, causing some resistance.
*Remember that just prior to menstruation or during menstruation, you are the most sensitive so you may want to avoid waxing then.
*If you are pregnant this can also cause sensitivity so do take precaution.
*It is normal for those who have course hair to bleed, so don't worry if it happens. It's quite normal.
*Accutane and Retin A users may not wax. Both thin the skin and can cause the skin to lift or remove. If you have used either recently and would like to wax, you must be off of the accutane for at least 6 months and Retin A for 3 to 4 weeks.
Strip waxing is accomplished by spreading a wax combination thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is then pressed on the top and ripped off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth.
Hard waxing utilizes hard wax (as opposed to strip wax). In this case, the wax is applied somewhat thickly and with no cloth or paper strips. The wax then hardens when it cools, thus allowing the easy removal by a therapist without the aid of cloths. This waxing method is very beneficial to people who have sensitive skin.
Frequently Asked Questions: Waxing 101
Q. Will waxing make my hair grow in thicker?
A. No, waxing will not make your hair grow in thicker, in fact when you wax your hair instead of shaving it will lighten and thin your hair out
Q. How often will I have to get waxed?
A. It depends, normally every 3-4weeks
Q.This is my first time waxing, what precautions should I take?
A. When it is your first time waxing, make sure that the area is clean and free of any creams/lotions and we always suggest, for legs and bikini area, a good exfoliation before to loosen all the hairs. Hair length should be between 1/4 – 1/2inch long. Any shorter and the hair won’t come out, Any longer and the hair will break.
Q. Help! I just got waxed a couple of days ago and i have bumps all over, what are they?
A. Most likely they are ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs are very common for those with thick and/or curly hair.
Q. I’ve just gotten waxed, what should I NOT be doing when i get home??
A. Because your pores are still open from the waxing, do not take a shower or go swimming for at least 24hrs afterwards. Warm/hot water, Chlorine and/or salt water on a freshly waxed area will lead to a very uncomfortable burning feeling and in some cases a rash.
Q. I am currently using prescription Acne Medication and/or Retinol products, Can I have my face waxed?
A. No, as long as you are on the medication and for at least 3mths after wards, you cannot get Facial Waxing done. Prescription acne medication and Retinol based products can thin out the skin on the face and when wax is taken off the area you have a higher chance of ripping/tearing the skin.
Q. I have just had a chemical peel, botox and/or microdermabrasion, Can I still having Facial Waxing done?
A. No, not for at least 72hrs after wards and with some Chemical peelings not for at least 1-2weeks after the treatment.
